Cockroach Racing

This sport in Australia is an annual event at the Bridge hotel in Brisbane Australia. The sport requires people to bring their own or buy a cockroach for 5 dollars. The rules of the event consist of:

  • No flying
  • The judge decides which cockroaches finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The decision is final.

The race is the highlight of the day with other attractions being: novelty food, voting on the “Cocky Queen,” and a costume competition. They have a website dedicated to the event if you would like to enter here. All the money raised by the festivities go to a local charity as an act of giving back.

 

Tunarama

A girl competing in the Tunarama.If racing isn’t your thing then you can always compete in the Tunarama Competition. Competitors compete to through a frozen tuna weighing between 17 to 20 pounds as far as they can. In the preliminaries of the event competitors all get to use a plastic model of a tuna but if they pass, they get to throw a real tuna across the field.

The current record is held by the born and raised Australian, olympian, hammer thrower. He threw 122.3 Feet in 1998.
